Without raising costs, they were able to add another shift during peak call hours.
North Collier Fire Rescue implemented a new program in hopes of getting to the scene faster.
By adding an extra shift at a different shift time, they are able to have more staff on call during peak hours.
This shift will be 10 hours in comparison to their usual 24-hour shift. The people working this shift will report to a station and then roam in their truck around areas where there are generally more calls, making response time quicker.
Assistant Chief of EMS and Training, Jorge Aguilera, says they have already noticed a drop in response times by two to three minutes. After six months, they will check in on the new program and evaluate any changes that need to be made.
