Dunbar High School Student Going to National Microsoft Competition

Dunbar High School has been turning out champions for years — Microsoft champions, that is.

“We’ve been doing the Microsoft Office Championship now since 2004,” Denise Spence, IT Programs Manager at Dunbar High, said. The global competition invites representatives from every country in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint .

And 14-year-old Kevin Dimaculangan, a 9th grader from Lehigh Acres, will be one of the next students to represent the school.

“For the national competition I’m going to travel all the way to Atlanta, Georgia,” Kevin said. “If I win that and go to the world competition, I get to take a plane flight to Orlando.”

According to Spence, Kevin can finish the the Excel test in under 10 minutes.

“He got perfect on the Excel expert level test which I personally…I don’t think I could get perfect on the test,” she said.

Multiple students from the school have placed in the national and world competition in the past.

Kevin wants to go to college and become a software engineer.
