If you depend on the Internet for your small office, or if you need it to work from home, the Federal Bureau-Investigation recommends that you reboot your router as soon as possible.
In a recent press release , the FBI said: “cyber actors have compromised hundreds of thousands of home and office routers and other networked devices worldwide.”
The cyber actors are using VPNFilter malware to tap into small offices and home office routers. “The malware is able to perform multiple functions, including possible information collection, device exploitation, and blocking network traffic,” the FBI explained.
What Should You Do?
The FBI is still not sure the exact motive of these attackers other than collecting information.
In the meantime, go ahead and reboot your router. All you have to do is unplug it the router and wait for at least 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
Now if you’re router has been compromised you should still do this because you’re essentially disrupting the malware and helping the FBI figure out if your device is infected or not.
