Ah, spring break! Beachside, toes out, surf’s up.
Last year, Lee County hosted about 1.3 million visitors. A good amount due to snow birds and spring breakers, no doubt. Those visitors racked up $728 million dollars in 2017, which was a 3.3% increase from the previous year .
As we prepare for Spring Break 2K18, why not hear from the businesses themselves? We headed down to Fort Myers Beach, to see what the surrounding businesses do to prepare for the upcoming season.
“We definitely up our staffing,” said Kim White, assistant manager of the Sandal Factory.
She says store generally increases inventory and shifts around merchandise.
Cory, a bartender at Yucatan Beach Stand says he’s most excited for the money! Spring Breakers usually order up on the drinks, and that brings in more tips.
“We usually almost double our staff about a month in advance to prepare,” he said. They train up until spring break starts.
Some restaurants like Fish House Restaurant are offering daily happy hours from 3pm-6pm.
We could not talk to everyone. Some businesses either refused to talk, had a no media policy, or their store owners were not available.
