Pool Safety: Many Lee County Pools Fail Inspection

One of the easiest ways to cool off is to dive in to the pool, but is your pool safe?

We took a look at the records, and in the first week of June, 49 pools have been marked ‘Unsatisfactory’ by the Lee County Health Department. Since May 1, 247 pools have failed inspection.

It’s not just public pools. Violations were found at hotels, apartments, community pools, and senior living facilities.

However, if your pool has a violation from number 19 through 25, those have to do with sanitary facilities and water quality. The rest are mostly concerned with other equipment and signage.

So, what can you do to stay safe in the water?

The CDC says diarrhea is one of the biggest issues in aquatic health. So, the CDC has some tips:

  • Don’t swallow water
  • Shower before you get in the water
  • If you’re swimming with kids make sure they take a bathroom break every hour
  • Don’t let kids swim if they’re sick with diarrhea.
