Let’s kick this off by saying that there is no reason to head to Kentucky when the derby is taking place in our own backyard! The first of its kind in Fort Myers, this Kentucky Derby-themed party & social event will be just the right mix of fun and flair for those who want to get “Down & Derby”! The Down & Derby Party, hosted by HelloSWFL, will be held on the beautiful back lawn of the historic Heitman House with amazing views along the Caloosahatchee River, just a few blocks east of downtown Fort Myers. Spring Training is almost here, southwest Florida! While we are home to Hammond Stadium and the Minnesota Twins, Naples is creating their own version of spring training … FOR KIDS! At the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples, they’re getting children ready for the baseball season with a Big League Fun exhibit! Complete with baseball training simulations, sports trivia and hands-on activities, kids will have a field day! No pun intended. What happens when girls find themselves and become comfortable with who they are? They win. At Crowning Daughters for Success, Tasheekia Perry is teaching girls the importance of perseverance and self-confidence. She encourages members of her program to break through their self-doubt and commit whatever it is they want out of life. One tactic she uses is asking the girls to write down their negative traits and “fire them.” On the count of three, the traits written on paper are put away in a box to be forgotten. They weren’t kidding when they said not all heroes wear capes, because this local hero needs nothing more than a paddle board. Local artist and Special Olympics Florida – Collier County paddle board coach, Steve Nagy built a paddle board from scratch for an upcoming ride from Goodland to Key Largo. That’s 150 miles! Why would someone volunteer themselves for such a trip? To raise money for the Special Olympics! Steve is expected to arrive in Key Largo by March 3rd. Safe travels to you, Steve!
