New Batch Of School Resource Officers Complete Training

A new batch of students completed school resource officer training at the Southwest Florida Public Service Academy Friday.

“Today’s the last day of the 40 hour session of the ‘SRO’ class,” remarked Cpt. Jay Rodriguez of the Fort Myers Police Department.

The students had been in session all week and came from all over Southwest Florida.

“So in that classroom you had Collier Sheriff’s Office, Lee County, Cape Coral Police Department, and I believe there was also somebody from Charlotte County,” explained Todd Everly, the director of the Southwest Florida Public Service Academy.

All of them learned about everything from active shooter training to dealing with an unruly child through lecture-style training.
