McDonald's Switching From Plastic to Paper Straws

McDonalds announced Friday it will start phasing out plastic straws at locations across the United States.

Plastic straws aren’t biodegradable and can end up in the ocean, harming sea turtles and other marine life.

However, paper straws are biodegradable.

People think it will break down and just disappear and it doesn’t happen that way, Mike Thomas with Keep Lee County Beautiful said.

So when’s the last straw? The fast food chain says it plans to switch to paper straws at some of its more than 14,000 locations in the U.S. later this year. All 1,360 restaurants in Ireland and the United Kingdom will switch over in September.
