Lake Okeechobee Algae Blooms Seem to be Dropping

The algae bloom in Lake Okeechobee seems to be fading.

On July 2, the bloom reached it’s peak covering 90 percent of the lake. Two weeks later, that number has dropped to 30 percent.

The U.S, Army Corps of Engineers resumed discharging Lake Okeechobee water July 13 after a brief pause to do some analysis.

Images from NOAA show algae coverage dropped from 80% to 30% right after the July 13 release.
