Kids Are Learning All About Red Tide, Water Quality

Fort Myers Shores Fishing Club is teaching children the ins and outs of fishing, and how to keep the water clean.

“With all of the problems that we’re having with the blue-green algae and the red tide, we would love to talk to kids and let them know what they can do, not just long-term but immediately,” said fishing club member, John Lavalla.

The club’s first workshop on water quality will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018, from 9 AM – 10:30 AM at Katy’s Bait & Tackle. The workshop is open to the public.

During the workshop, young anglers will learn the importance of retrieving nets, hooks, and lines from the water.

A number of fishing shops will accept your tangled fishing lines and send it to a facility where it can be recycled and repurposed.
