Its official, no more plastic straws on Fort Myers Beach

Back in November, the Town of Fort Myers Beach passed a city ordinance to ban the distribution of plastic straws.

The city council gave a 90-day grace period to allow businesses time to prepare, and the time is up. We took to the streets to see how businesses are handling the straw ban.

Turns out, they just switched to paper straws. These straws are in compliance with the ordinance because they are biodegradable.

However, you CAN bring prepackaged straws that accompany a beverage. For example, things like Capri Sun straws are allowed as long as they are not “altered, packaged or repackaged” within the Town of Fort Myers Beach.

Fines for violations are:
$100 – first offense
$200 – second offense
$500 – third offense
