Governor Scott Declares State Of Emergency Over Algae Blooms

Governor Rick Scott visited Southwest Florida Monday morning to discuss the toxic algae blooms seen around Cape Coral and the Caloosahatchee River.

He issued a state of emergency due to the blooms Monday afternoon, which you can read here .

Over the weekend, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that they will temporarily stop water flows out of Lake Okeechobee both west down the Caloosahatchee River and east down the St. Lucie waterway starting Monday. Water managers will do a full assessment on the water conditions.

The Corps stopped Lake Okeechobee flows to the St. Lucie Estuary on June 30.
