For the Love of Barbecue Sauce

Brad Samuelson has been a loyal customer of Nevermind Awesome Bar & Eatery for several years. But Brad is not just any customer. Brad holds the secret ingredients to the restaurant’s Texas-style barbecue sauce.

When Brad is free from his project management job, he’s whipping up a batch of barbecue sauce for his favorite eatery in Cape Coral.

Originally, Shannon Yates, the lead chef and owner of Nevermind Awesome Bar & Eatery, used store bought BBQ sauce on the food it served, until he received a challenge from a patron.

“I bet mine would be better,” Brad told the owner of Nevermind Awesome Bar & Eatery. Shannon tested the flavorful BBQ sauce on customers.

They loved it.

“Brad is one of those people who was always hootin’ and hollering about his sauce,” Shannon said, “and I said, ‘hey can you keep up with four gallons plus a week,’”

Humans of SWFL often have a skill that has taken years to master. Brad is no different. His cooking, secret recipe has taken 10 years to perfect.

His passion for making barbecue sauce started when he tailgated for his son’s football games.

“I bought some store-bought sauce from the shelf and doctored it up,” Brad said, as his eyes slightly gazed over from the memory.

Brad then went the extra mile. In 2006, he entered a charity competition. He didn’t expect to win first place.

“After that, I was like I can do better at sauce than this,” Brad said, “and I just started experimenting.”

After years of experimenting, Brad’s secret sauce has won the approval to dozens of barbecue enthusiasts who walk through the doors of Cape Coral restaurant, Nevermind Awesome Bar & Eatery.

Pro tip: Order the slow roasted pork butt grilled cheese sandwich to have a taste of the delectable sauce.
