Don’t call it ‘mellow yellow’ because it’s far from it.

Estero Design Review Board to Discuss Painting the Hertz Arena Yellow

The announcement of the Hertz Organization having naming rights over Germain Arena is causing some controversy - not because of the name - because it might have a bright new paint job.

Hertz and KTB Florida Sports Arena LLC are requesting approval from the Village of Estero to paint the arena’s exterior, ‘Hertz Yellow.’

According to the Village Code, there are strict rules about the color of commercial structures in the area.

In Section 33-334. Building Color, it states, the colors “must be neutral, warm earth tones or subdued pastels.” Buildings may also use “brightly colored trims, cornices, or columns” to create a special effect. Brighter colors can be used in areas including “doors, windows, and architectural details.”

The Design Review Board is having an informational public meeting Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. to discuss this proposal. The public will have an opportunity to voice their questions and concerns. The board will take all public comments into consideration prior to making a final decision. No decision will be made at Wednesday night's meeting.

Craig Brush, the president and general manager of The Florida Everblades, is in favor of painting the exterior of the arena yellow.

Brush acknowledges that Hertz has a valuable brand and people associate its colors with the values of the company. He no reservations to impede changes.

“If the decision is to approve," Brush said, "we call the painters.”
