It’s rainy season in Southwest Florida, and June 1st officially marks the start of hurricane season. Florida officials are reminding residents to update their flood insurance.
A basic homeowners’ insurance policy does not provide coverage for flooding. You must purchase it separately from your insurance company.
The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation has a list of flood insurance providers on its website.
“It is never too early to prepare for a tropical weather event,” Jimmy Patronis, CFO of Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, said.
“With significant rain forecasted and flooding on the horizon, Floridians need to review their current insurance policies and fully understand their coverages and exclusions so they can prepare accordingly,” he said.
