It’s been months since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, which completely devastated the island. The people of Puerto Rico have been struggling ever since.
A few weeks after the Hurricane, we visited a group of local Puerto Ricans that got together to collect supplies and raise funds to send to the island. These people were strangers that met through social media and formed a Facebook group dedicated to sending help from Southwest Florida.
The group approached us to tell us how the Hispanic American Doctors Association of SWFL, and Golisano Children’s Hospital got together to send around 11 specialized hospital cribs to Puerto Rico.
We went to visit them at a warehouse where they were wrapping up the cribs. One of the leaders of this effort, Dr. Teresa Garcia, tells us about the process of how they got the cribs, and where they are going.
