We know about Cape Coral being one of the cities with the most pedestrian deaths in the nation. We decided to learn what the city is doing about this issue, and it looks like they are putting a lot of effort to build sidewalks.
I met with Persides Zambrano, the Cape Coral Public Works planning Manager. It turns out that the city has been receiving millions of dollars in grants to build sidewalks all throughout the city. They have been prioritizing areas nearby schools, and they have been pretty successful at it.
Now, the city council just approved construction of more than $1 million worth of new sidewalks. These will be around the Northwest Softball Complex and Trafalgar elementary schools.
Persides told us how challenging it is to get funding, and how the process looks like.
It’s good to see the city working towards solving this problem.
