Broken Well Taints Water, Concerns Clewiston

A well broke in the City of Clewiston, and now people there are concerned about the water being yellow.

“No, I’m not going to drink yellow water,” Barbara Edmonds, the owner of Main Street Subs, said.

Some took to Facebook to complain about the problem, but the people in the community don’t seem to be too worried. A representative with the City said the complaints were blowing the problem out of proportion.

“I hadn’t really noticed it until about two days after I got home — it was not that bad,” Candace Sanchez said. “I’ve been using it at our house right out of my filter. I’m a little bit careful, you know just in case to take precautions because that’s just what you should do. But I’m really not that concerned.”

We reached out to the city to find out when the well will be fixed. In an e-mail, the City said the problem should be fixed within the next couple weeks. The utilities department also could not tell us the location of the four wells, citing “security reasons”.

“I have faith in our city that they’re working as hard as they can to correct the problem and they’ll take care of it,” Sanchez said.
