Myth: You have to like basketball to love the The Original Harlem Globetrotters. False. This traveling showcase of internationally-renowned talent is a merge of the basketball & entertainment worlds. The ball handling of these players leaves audience members shocked, amazed and sometimes even laughing. Watch the players dunk with minimal effort and showcase trick shots that will leave you asking “How did he do that?”. This all-star cast is not to be missed! Ticket prices vary. Sunday, Dec. 10th. Germain Arena. 11000 Everblades Parkway. Estero.
I guarantee you will not be on the naughty list if you get to this pub crawl in downtown Fort Myers. In exchange for a $25 donation, get one free beer at each stop on the tour (there are about six)! How cool is that? This is perfect for date night or hanging with your friends. Your donation supports the American Cancer Society & the Relay For Life City of Palms Downtown River District. Drinking for a good cause? Yep. I am all about that. Minimum $25 donation. Saturday, Dec. 9th. River District. Fort Myers.
Own parenting this weekend by taking your family to an outdoor movie this weekend. Pack up the lawn chairs, the blankets, maybe even some hot chocolate and enjoy A Christmas Story – a holiday movie about a boy named Ralphie who goes on a quest filled with outrageous bunny pajamas, a mean Santa and even a triple dog dare to lick a freezing flagpole just to get his Christmas wish. The last outdoor movie at the Alliance sold out and it was a complete hit! Luckily, this one is free and you don’t need a ticket. The Alliance for the Arts ask that you simply consider a minimum $10 donation per family. Saturday, Dec. 9th. Alliance for the Arts. 10091 McGregor Blvd. Fort Myers.
Families are still recuperating from Irma, especially in areas hardest hit by the storm. Organizations like the Guadalupe Center in Immokalee and Pay It Forward Lehigh Acres are working hard to fill the financial gap that many families have faced after the storm. This holiday season, both organizations are hosting toy drives to support families in need. The Guadelupe Center encourages the donation of unwrapped toys, clothing and gift cards for children of all ages. Though they will be distributing gifts this weekend, they will still accept gifts of which they will distribute to needy families. Pay It Forward Lehigh Acres is requesting toys for all ages, and new & gently used items that children can give to their parents for Christmas.
