Sgt. Sammy Gonzalez, known to Hello SWFL as The Marathon Cop, is actively training and raising money for his 390-mile charity run from Fort Myers to Tallahassee for Run for the Fallen. Since the last time we talked to him, he is still having trouble asking people for money even if it’s for the charity.
However, word of his mission made it to Jill Passarella of 2 The Top gym in Fort Myers, and she decided to throw an exercise challenge for her trainers. For every burpee rep they do, every pound of weight they lift, and every calorie burned on the assault bike; they will donate a dollar to The Marathon Cop’s cause. And to the live up to their gym’s name, Jill catered all who showed up with indulgent bacon-infused food and hardcore rock music.
The spectacle lasted two hours as the trainers of 2 The Top lifted a total of four thousand pounds and burned hundreds of calories.
In the end, they raised a total of five thousand dollars to help families of police officers who have fallen in the line of duty.
If you want to see if you can do better, there is going to be another charity event open to the public on April 7th at Hyte CrossFit.
Or, for non-athletic people like me, you can contribute directly to the cause, and you can get a t-shirt.
