Swamp Cabbage Festival Brings Heritage to LaBelle

Every year, thousands gather in LaBelle for the Swamp Cabbage Festival. But what exactly is swamp cabbage? We asked vendors and festival-goers about the mysterious food used in everything from fritters to cupcakes.

Swamp cabbage is actually from the hearts of the sabel palm tree. It can be cooked many different ways!

The festival happens every year in LaBelle — bringing people from around Southwest Florida to see collector cars, try new foods, and view armadillo races. Yes, armadillo races.

If that isn’t enough — there’s also a parade each year that goes through town, and a lot of the local businesses participate.
