Our Population Is Growing Fast: Is That Good?

A recent report says our area is growing faster than pretty much anywhere, but should we feel good about that?

Our population is growing faster than pretty much anywhere. But is that a good thing? According to this Cushman & Wakefield 2018 Florida Population report, our area’s population is projected to grow 3.6% in 2018 – the most in the state.

Lee County and the city of Fort Myers seem happy about it, telling us in part through this statement, “This can be attributed to several things: (the city) features a vibrant downtown that supports an array of cultural venues along the banks of the Caloosahatchee River. While downtown continues to grow, the City as a whole is recognized for its high quality of life and livable neighborhoods.”

Few can deny the benefits of being here, but there’s more to the quality of life than sandy beaches. In the video above, we briefly explore some of the issues that may come up or even worse as our population continues to boom.
