Hendry County joins a list of 27 counties in Florida designated as Purple Heart Counties
“When we’re over there we become like a brotherhood one for all and all for one. Not Childs play. A mans in bad trouble all for one and one for all. Either we’re making out or we’re not”, Three-time purple heart recipient John McCubbin
26 out of 67 counties in Florida are Purple Heart counties and Hendry county just joined Charlotte, Collier, and Lee on the list.
“It shows our appreciation for the sacrifices that they made to earn those Purple Hearts. They did not want to earn them, but they did and they should be thanked for it”, Veteran Service Officer David Abney Sr.
But for veterans John McMcubbin and James Knight naming the county a Purple Heart county is a step in the right direction to bring awareness to problems that veterans face once they’re back from serving
“THEY JUST CAN’T GET THE JOBS… SO MAYBE THIS WILL SHED SOME LIGHT ON THINGS I DON’T KNOW”, Purple Heart Recipient James Night
Many veterans are modest and won’t go out of their way to seek out services.
“Well, we really never really advertise the Purple Heart you know what I mean. We never really thought of it. It’s something that we keep to our self… If they find out it was advertised here”, Three-time purple heart recipient John McCubbin
Veterans have to go to their local veteran service officer to find services. To find out who that is in your community, visit NVF.org. The National Veterans Foundation can help you find the veteran service officer in your area.
